Snow Digger

So I have finally arrived to my destination just outside Nashville and let me tell you: getting here was a huge ordeal. This weekend there was a very large snow storm blanketing most of Virginia which we drove through to get to Tennessee. We were doing alright (despite me feeling like I was going to have an anxiety attack) until we decided to pull into a rest area and wait till dawn so that we could see and hopefully the snow to die down. We took the turn too early and ended up in three feet of snow. We spent about an hour and a half, maybe two hours digging our way out of the snow. When we finally got ourselves free (it took 4 or 5 tries) we headed towards the rest area and made it up the ramp.

For those of you unfamiliar with these areas they fork into two different drives: trucks (semi’s) and passenger vehicles. Well we somehow ended up in the truck lane (the sign was impossible to see) and low and behold the back right tire seized, full of snow and ice. After chipping it all off a couple times (kept getting more snow in it, obviously) we ended up stuck again. At this point I was dripping wet and shivering uncontrollably so I called it quits and we both changed and warmed up for a while. After I’d say 30 minutes I stopped shaking and ended up falling asleep.

When I awoke there was a big ukrainian guy in front of the car. LOL! It was kind of like.. wtf?? But then I realized he was helping Joshua dig the car out again. With him and another trucker’s help we got the car back down the drive but lacked any traction so two other truckers who had pulled up behind us gave us a push and we made it (finally) up the hill and to the actual rest stop. Spent a couple hours there waiting to see if a tow truck would come but eventually after Joshua couldn’t get any rest we decided to risk it and try to make our way to Staunton.

Luckily we were able to get over a hump in the snow at the bottom of the hill where it met the highway (unfortunately making some poor guy almost 360 his car in the snow, which we could do nothing about – he came up rather quickly on us trying to finagle our way out). From there it wasn’t as difficult, though I was still extremely anxious about it all. We made our way to a hotel and even more luckily got the last room (someone had just checked out). Ended up having to eat gas station snacks since nothing was open (the Applebees down the hill from the hotel closed 15 mins before we got to it ) and then a long sleep for Joshua.

Today we made it safe and sound to TN and are happy to be here. It’s a new house, a lot different than the farm, but really VERY nice. I have a feeling the week is going to fly on by, but I hope to enjoy it 110%.

On another note I have been playing and enjoying Midkemia Online (MkO). There are a lot of whiney brats on the forums forgetting that this is a beta release but other than that it’s alright thus far. Very different from the other IRE games which is awesome. I do actually feel like a newb and that’s what I wanted! My only complaints are that I’m finding it -very- hard to level and that they didn’t really put much thought into the player perspective on the release. What I mean by that is: all the other games had things like a world map, some lore, and a lot more help files put in before releasing and I think MkO neglected a lot of that prep work. Aside from that it has a lot of expected problems, like loads of grammar issues and unbalanced aspects, and what I’m really interested to see is if they’ll be smart and pick up some mortals to help out. I doubt it though. I don’t know what it is with IRE not taking full advantage of all assets available to them.

Anyhow. I miss my mom, gran, and sister. Heck even my brother now that I’m used to seeing his ugly mug every day *nyah* But the in-laws are close to me too and it’s nice to be away from boring ol’ Norfolk. I’m excited to see what will happen next and I hope it doesn’t involve snow!

Wow, that would have been so scary. I’ve been wishing for a white Christmas (it’s Summer here) but now I’ve read that, maybe I’m glad we don’t have them!

Anyway enjoy yourself, and since it’s unlikely I’ll see you beforehand (going to my Dad’s this afternoon where there is no internet) have an awesome Christmas!! *hugs*
