Comfy musings about blogging

I’m currently in one of the most comfortable places on Earth & as you might well know one of my favorite spots to be: BED! Joshua is at work so I have this King sized monstrosity all to myself. :) And I’m using the time wisely, I’m relaxing. I just finished reading Sarah‘s blog & Vimeo and checking my Facebook & Twitter. I woke up about an hour ago after 5 hours of sleep to let out and feed my Danes and then came back and snuggled into the blankets to read everyone’s stuff.

I’ve actually been really good about keeping up with people’s blogs! I’m kind of proud of myself for that. Everyone on my blogroll I check religiously every day. Everyone that posted their feed in the Feed Meee thread on Lavish has been added to my RSS folders in Outlook 2010 which I have up pretty much all day long on my desktop. And a few other people who’ve worked their way into my daily reading folder (and I haven’t put on the blogroll yet) are checked at least once every other day. And I do all this even though many of you don’t blog daily.

By the way. I’ve only missed five days this month. And to make up for it many of the days have two or three entries. I’m proud of that too, even if a lot of it might just be me rambling.

Which brings me to my next topic. I just commented on Sarah’s vlog about blogging and I wanted to talk about it a little bit more here. Essentially the vlog was about why you blog and this is my answer…

Once upon a time I started blogging mainly as another outlet. I keep journals for different things like life, memories, and writing. Blogging online was another way of keeping a record and then it turned into a place where all my online connections could come and see what was going on in my life when they were out of touch with me. It is still serving that purpose today. Some of the people I used to game with and no longer do check in from time to time, some of my in-laws do so, and some long lost friends scattered around the internet (and probably stalkers, who knows) do too. And this purpose alone is enough to update it every now and then, keep it alive so-to-speak.

But I want the blog to be more. You know, as time goes on I miss places like Martini Lounge (remember that?) more and more. I miss connecting with other people. Believe me, it is NOT something that used to come naturally to me. I had to work very, very hard at it and to this day I only have a handful of meaningful connections, almost none of which are friends. (I have 2 people I would really call friends IRL)

I want to have regular readers and more importantly I want to have regular commenters. I mean… if I don’t dig there is no other way for me to really know you were there, that you read and connected with anything that I said, you know? I know a lot of you have busy lives but even a single line, wow you don’t know how excited I get over that. It makes me want to write more, to do more with my blog, to share more.

Like I had commented on the vlog. Everyone who has ever commented on the blog is on my list of things to read or on my Facebook or being followed on Twitter or some even in my AIM/MSN list. It’s not something I feel obligated to do but if you give me feedback and want to give YOU feedback. I want to encourage you to blog more and let you know that what you’re writing (or saying) isn’t just nonsense and you aren’t speaking to a wall. You’re reaching someone and that someone wants you to continue trucking along.

I want to be there when you laugh, when you rant, when you cry, when you discover. And I want you to be there to share all my experiences and new found knowledge too.

To this end, I will strive to be better for you. To post more things I think you might like to read. To post better content. To share with you more, both my knowledge and my thoughts. And I encourage you to not only give feedback, but to do the same in your own little spec of the internet.

How funny. I was thinking of this same thing today. Lurkers drive me crazy, but I’m a big lurker (sheepish grin). We get what we give, right?

I know what you mean about connecting with people. I comment everyone back who comments me the next time I blog, I don’t understand the people who don’t do this and still expect people to read their stuff and comment.

I hate lurkers too, though I think other parts of my site are more popular than my blog, so I don’t know how many lurkers I have per say.
