Six to eight inches of snow.

Okay so… it snowed. I know the storm was huge (stretching from the east coast all the way past Texas) but we weren’t thinking we’d get actual snow. Instead we were somewhat targeted just to get some sleet and icy rain. But here it is. Six to eight inches of it. My big dogs aren’t too keen on going out in it, but have. As for my puppy, since she’s so short she has to hop through it like a deer, getting her belly all icy. So I can’t blame her for not wanting to go out there! The neighbors have a puppy that earlier they kept putting out on the porch and the poor thing keep essentially screaming to be let back in. It’s pretty small still I think so it didn’t want to go out in the snow either & none of those idiots would go out into the yard with it to show him/her it’s okay.

So obviously with my last ordeal with snow.. I want this batch to take a hike too!

As you can kind of tell from the photo, they are lined with white fluff which is actually quite soft (so is the blindfold). The only think I wish was different is the strap on the blindfold (white or pink ribbon would have been nicer) but it works and I may just modify it myself ;) Bust out those crafty skills.

So where are they right now? Resting up against my husband’s pillow, duh! HINT HINT HINT Joshua my love. Why wait till Valentine’s day?

Front of the zoo

Since I will be going to the zoo a lot now that I have a membership, the title is numbered. Nathan and I went this afternoon. It was nice and sunny out before we left and then all of sudden got cloudy (I’m convinced it’s because I went outside) and remained cloudy till we left the zoo… and got sunny again. Ugh. But it wasn’t freezing, about 51 degrees. I was out in just a tank top and half sleeve shirt and wasn’t shaking so it was good. Some of the animals weren’t in their exhibits due to the weather though, and there were barely any people (which I never mind).

So we started off at the petting zoo part and what’s standing there? A peacock. Now we don’t know whether they are supposed to be wandering around like that, but the zookeepers didn’t seem to care. And the peacock was semi-interested in my camera toting. At the barn yard part (what I call the petting zoo) there are goats, cows, and chickens. We didn’t bother seeing the chickens.. I mean.. its a chicken. But I did go pet the cows that were near the fence What can I say, I like cows! (Nathan goes “hello dinner” at them lol)

Next to that part there is a building for reptiles and nocturnal animals, so we strolled through there looking at the snakes and lizards. My favorite wasn’t in his tank when we went through, which is a pity since he was posing for me last time I saw him. But the Ocelot was there and I made one of the monkeys drop his lettuce ha. It was actually quite funny cause he realized people were there and came running from the back of the exhibit to the glass, lettuce in hand. Tried to show us the lettuce then dropped it.

Which is somewhat even more amusing because the next set of monkeys we saw outside tried to show me their lettuce too… guess I looked like I wanted lettuce.

So anyhow, went out the doors to an area with some birds and a very curious little animal called a Blue duiker. I’d never seen it before. Nathan said it made him think of a Satyr. (well he kept trying to remember what it was called first and we went through a short list of mythical creatures before I finally said Satyr )

The prairie dogs were still hibernating, so no fun in the pop up windows they have, and the bison looked exceptionally warm. The lion cubs are growing nicely and they’ve changed the exhibit there to make it easier to see them. The male was pacing back and forth in front of the main view area which was nice to be able to see his lazy butt for once. ;)

The merekats were out but huddled in a small hole in their exhibit. And the fennec foxes <3 were huddled together for warmth too. I finally got to see the Zebra and Rhino, which Nate pointed out to me. They were closed off elsewhere last time I went because of the construction for the Tiger exhibit (which is still going on). The elephants and giraffes were indoors but we got to see those since guests can view that particular enclosure. The little baby giraffe is adorable. (I can’t wait till they have a baby elephant)

The bongos (a new found love) were out and about, giving plenty of affection to their newborns. And one lone baboon topped off the end of the trail for us. But at least he wasn’t adamant about showing me his butt this time.

We got sushi and then came home The end.

I would SO eat people.
